Servite Community at Assumption

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Fr. Joe was ordained for the Order of Friar Servants of Mary (Servites) in 1984. He has ministered in Servite parishes in central New Jersey, St. Louis, and Chicago, and has served as editor for a number of Servite publications. He has given parish missions and retreats throughout the country. From 1993 to 1999 Fr. Joe was Assistant Provincial of the Eastern Province of Servites.
In 2006 he was named Director of the National Shrine of St Peregrine (the cancer saint) at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica and part-time Associate Pastor of Assumption. In July, 2009 he became Pastor of Assumption.

Father David Brown was born and raised in Chicago. After high school he entered the Servites and was ordained in May 1948. He remained at St. Joseph Seminary, Elgin until 1952 when he was assigned to establish a novitiate and seminary of Our Lady in Riverside California. He held the office of novice master until 1962 when he was appointed pastor of St. Philip Benizi parish in the area of the Cabrini-Green project in Chicago. In 1966 he had a one year assignment at Mt. Carmel Parish in Denver and then assigned to the formation program of the Servites at St. Louis University. At that time he received a master’s degree in Religious Education which he later utilized as a teacher at Holy Cross High School, River Grove, Illinois. Subsequently in Detroit he served in the Archdiocesan Religious Education Office for three years. Fr. Damian M. Charboneau. O.S.M. was born in Chicago on July 1,1924. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Grammar School and St. Philip High School on the West Side and, after a year at St. John's University in Minnesota, he entered the Servite Order in Illinois. Ordained in 1950 he obtained an M.A. in English at Loyola University and taught for many years in a Servite minor seminary, the novitiate program in California, as well as in Servite high schools in Chicago and Denver. He served as a missionary in Swaziland before returning to the States to take up pastoral duties back in Chicago and in New Jersey. After a sabbatical year in African Studies at U.C.L.A., Fr. Charboneau returned to Swaziland with the U.S. Peace Corps as a lecturer at the university. Father Michael Doyle was born in Chicago on 24 May 1938. He was educated in the Catholic Schools, kindergarten through post-graduate degrees. He entered the Order of Servants of Mary or pre-novitiate formation in 1956, the novitiate in 1957, and pronounced his first vows in 1958. He was sent to Our Lady of Benburb Priory, County Tyrone, Ireland for Philosophy Studies. He returned to the United States in 1960 and attended Loyola University, Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. He was then selected to study theology at the Servite Fathers International Theological Faculty the “Marianum” in Rome. While in Rome he earned the S.T.B. and S.T.L. degrees and a Diploma in Mariology .He was ordained a priest on April 19, 1965 at San Marcello Church in Rome. Father John Pawlikowski is Professor of Social Ethics at Chicago Theological Union and the author of fifteen books. He has been a participant/speaker in Christian/Jewish/Muslim dialogues in Spain, Rome, Haifa, Israel and throughout the United States. His scholarly interests include the theological and ethical aspects of the Christian-Jewish relationship and public ethics. A leading figure in the Christian-Jewish dialogue, he is president of the International Council of Christians and Jews and author of Christ in the Light of the Christian Jewish Dialogue and co-editor with Judith Banki of Ethics in the Shadow of the Holocaust.
