Community Service
Chicago Jesuit Academy: Chicago Jesuit Academy is an innovative Catholic middle school for underserved males in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago (far west); 5058 W. Jackson Blvd.; Chicago, 60644.
Our students come to us in 5th-grade reading at the 3rd-grade level. Our first 8th-grade graduating class (May 2009) were, on average, reading at the 10th-grade level.
Our students participate in a 10.5 hour day; they go to school for 11 months of the year. They enter outstanding college-prep high schools (for example, St. Ignatius College Prep, Loyola Academy, Holy Trinity High School, Culver Academy in Indiana, Thatcher in California, and so on).
To make this work well, we need volunteers...
- to work with these hard-working students at all times of the day.
- to work with these students during assigned study periods at 2:30-3:30 pm and 5:00-6:00 pm on Mondays-through-Thursdays.
- to assist with everyday school issues: filing, reception, office work, library set-up and maintenance, to name a few projects.
